Walk – live in the Spirit
Galatians 5:16,25 (KJV) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
A pastors wife discovered that a faithful family of 12 were not at the church service that morning and asking around found out they were all very sick. Even worse, it was a highly contagious disease. Some of the members were over heard saying they would not go anywhere close to them for fear of getting sick themselves.
The only doctor in town was away on another life threating mission with a woman who was having problems delivering her baby. After the service was over, the pastors wife told her husband she felt God wanted her to help the family. So… for all the following week, she was with them day and night. Finally, the doctor came back – checked the family out and told her this was nothing short of a miracle… because usually this disease killed everyone but God had spared all the family bringing them back to health and also kept the pastors wife well.
This was told at church the following Sunday service – by the family, of their pastors wife devotion to help her fellow men, making those members very ashamed of themselves.
That is what Jesus meant by walking and living in the Spirit. If the pastor’s wife had let the fear of the flesh rule her, most likely, the whole family would have died. It might even have spread to other families with many deaths. But one obedient God fearing woman saved the day by being guided by the Holy Ghost.
Jesus was walking on the water – Peter said to the Lord to let him walk on water too, but when he saw through his fleshly eyes the turbulent water and perhaps began to think it was impossible to do… he begin to sink. Jesus reached out:
“O thou of little faith” and Peter ashamed got back in the boat.
You see… The woman lived in the spirit while Peter walked by flesh. The woman trusted God while Peter trusted self and his disobedient flesh. In order to please God we must pray and fast until “self” dies and gets out. Fasting prayer does not change Almighty Jehovah. It changes – us so we can — walk, talk, think, feel, and act to please the Master.
Want to but can’t
Have you… as a christian… ever wanted to completely be submitive to Christ Jesus because you love Him — but… satan fought you ever step of the way? Perhaps you got angry and lost your temper, or you said a word you had no intention of saying or… you slipped up, by doing what you never dreamed you’d ever do?
That is the exact reason why we are commanded… Galatians 5:24 (KJV) And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
To walk and live in the Spirit we must be willing to crucify the flesh – do this also by daily reading and study of the Bible as well as prayer. The more time you spend with God – the stronger you will become.
